Well I believe it is real, certainly not an imaginary 6mm!! How accurate do you need it to be?? Seriously, I never bothered to measure it as that was not crucial to me. However, looking at my original purchase I bought the 4mm rope and not the 6mm for this Seller so can not help you. I would say that if the Seller states it to be 6mm then it will be as near as possible.

Q: Does it absorb water?

I should imagine it absorbs water eventually if left in water or always getting wet but i used mine for craft purposes so im not 100 percent sure its more a guess .

Q: How much would I need to make a large plant pot

I am not sure , I used quite a lot covering a small pot .I would think two rolls.

Q: Is it good for redoing cats scratch pads?

It is excellent for cat scratch post. I had my first go at recovering mine and was very pleased with the result. I’d say the 10mm thickness is perfect. Much thinner and it wouldn’t be as durable.
