Must have for all Administrators and Instructional Coaches
If you are looking for a tool to support SOR training or implementation this is the book! The author writes from a boots on the ground approach with many practical ideas, activities, and guides. He provides “looks fors” that guide leaders in recognizing solid implementation of systematic explicit phonics instruction as well as well planned ways to differentiate instruction for students above, below, and on grade level. For me, his specific attention to how to the needs of multi language learners is a game changer! Thank you Wiley for this amazing resource.

A wealth of practical ideas
I read this book as part of an online summer book study. Since this was my first time reading a book by Wiley Blevins, I can’t speak to the overlap with his other books—but, for me, this book was PACKED with ideas I could take and use right away. Many people in the study even expressed feeling overwhelmed at trying to implement all the great ideas. Anticipating this challenge, Blevins recommends focusing on adopting just one idea at a time, then adding in other skills as you feel comfortable. I’m starting with the content related to reading and writing with decodables, as well as incorporating blending lines. I have also used his assessments for both phonics and spelling to determine needs/groups at the beginning of the year. These resources are included in the appendix of the book, along with many other valuable supports. If you want to get serious about maximizing your impact for ALL students during your ELA block, I think you will get much use and inspiration from this book.

Intervention Bible
This is a great resource for any interventionist. It’s like an interventionist bible. This is a wonderful book! It taught me so much about differentiating phonics instruction. I joined a book study that followed this book. Wiley Blevins is a smart guy. I loved the examples of “how to” in the classroom snap shots. I appreciate all the suggested Routines for maximum impact. I bookmarked and highlighted tons of great ideas and information. Thank you creating this book!

I read this in 24 hours ...
This was so full of practical tips for teaching (and differentiating) phonics, that I couldn't put it down. I had read the entire thing cover to cover within 24 hours of owning it. If you are teaching in the primary grades right now, don't hesitate ... this book is worth the read!

Easy to read and so informative.
I am a fan of Blevins and this is, in my opinion, his best book. Full of great information and terminology. He provides practical examples of what to include in small group and why. Would recommend this to novice and seasoned teachers!
