QUIET, great price, pulls more than other trains

The media could not be loaded. ITS VERY QUIET WHEN RUNNING!!I was pleasantly surprised with this purchase as some of the "gold standard" brand trains and this one meets and/or exceeds expectations when comparing to those!Me: I have two kiddos under the age of 3 so these trains are for fun play (vs model train track set ups), meaning they get played with rougher and in unique ways!Pros+ This is the quietest train engine by far, it's just a little hum noise. This alone will make me a repeat buyer!+ Powerful- this actually is more consistently powerful than the other brand engines that we have.+ Movement; it goes forward and backward via the switch on top+ Size comparison- similar to the regular size engines of Brio (see picture)+ Compatibility- runs smoothly on our various brands of wooden track including Brio, Melissa and Doug, and generic off brandCons- the switch to detemine directions can be difficult to get into the middle position to stop- you push the switch backwards to make it reverse, push it into the middle position to make it stop/turn off, and push it forward to make it go forward. My toddler is great at getting it to go forward and backwards but typically needs help making it stop. I attempt to demonstrate this in the video.I purchased this on prime day for near $10 and think it was a great deal at that price. Again, the quietness of the engine alone makes me a believer!

Revitalized interest in wooden train set

We’ve owned and enjoyed a Hape wooden train set (with manual engine) since my oldest was a toddler. By the time my kids reached early elementary, however, they’d largely lost interest in it. This Christmas I put this battery-powered Hape engine in my 8yo’s stocking, and now she and her 5yo sister once again play with our entire Hape set regularly. For its price, the engine runs quite well—it can handle a hill, with a couple cars in tow, at a slow but steady pace. Keep in mind, though, it isn’t remote-controlled. Shifting from forward to reverse requires manually toggling a switch on the back of the engine. And if you set up your tracks so that they diverge into multiple paths, you can’t control which path the engine will take: it will take the same path of least resistance over and over again. My kids enjoy experimenting, though, with redirecting the engine’s path by placing obstacles at points of divergence. Using “mechanical switch” track pieces would more effectively achieve their objective, although we haven’t personally tried them. I’m not sure if Hape makes any, but Brio does (Brio World #33344), and I’ve generally found Brio train sets to be compatible with Hape.

Works great

We bought to replace an older brio train that had slowed down even with a new battery. Not loving the plastic over the wood but it works much better.

Perfect gift for kids!

The media could not be loaded. Bought this few weeks ago for my two year old son. He really likes and is intrigued by the train. The train does really well of pulling few carts. So it’s really strong. The durability is great as well! I would definitely recommend buying the train for your kids. It’s a great gift and great fun!It stays on the train track; it performs really well! As you can see, the train stays on the tracks while pulling some carts. It’s definitely easy to use and to install battery inside the train. My 4 year old daughter would like one too, so I might order another one for her. Overall, I really like the train. I don’t see any issues. It last longer than I expected. My kids play with it for at least an hour and it’s still going. I believe it also depends on what brand of battery you use. If you buy cheap batteries, it won’t last that long.

Fits wooden tracks

Our 19 mos old grandson has had so much fun with the wooden train set we purchased for him. This engine was part of his gift. It pulls the cars slowly without any trouble and fits on the tracks nicely.

A Hit with My 3 y.o. Grandson

My grandson is crazy about trains, and he has several battery powered trains. He's long had magnetically linked, wooden track trains, but has graduated to plastic track, powered trains with a remote. The problem is, he can't set up the track himself as he doesn't have the motor skills and cognitive skills to plan out the geometric principles to make the track. He can, however, put together simple wooden track layouts. Linking these trains and getting them on the rails is also a challenge for him. This little engine is perfect to give his magnetically joined trains power and a renewed interest for him. It can pull four or five cars with ease and operates over an hour continuously on a single AA cell. With a simple on and off switch and single speed, its easy for young children to operate. While he still prefers his larger remote control trains, this he can set up himself and enjoy when he can't harness an adult to set up a track for him. A great addition to any wooden track train set, to move into powered motion, and a great price too.

Battery dies quick

Great engine, pulls lots of cars — only downside is my three year old doesn’t remember to turn it off so it just goes until it dies. Would be nice if there was a timer of some sort
