Are the puzzle pieces individual states, except for some of the small new england states? Too many of the states puzzles have puzzle pieces with no relationship to the states.

We love this fun, learning puzzle.
The quality of this is nice. It's a wooden puzzle and looks as pictured. I love that my kids are learning what the states look like and where they go and don't even realize it. They're toddlers right now, but they're learning all the time. I like that it's also a refresher for me of the states and capitols. It's a pretty good sized puzzle. It came with all the parts, it shows what the states are known for as well.In the picture it's missing Florida, that's due to us losing it. Georgia has also seen better days. Our puppy got a hold of that one.

Awesome Puzzle
This is a great puzzle. Over the years I've purchased a few of them as birthday gifts for various children. As it typical of most Melissa & Doug products that I've encountered, the puzzle is of superior quality...I love the fact that it's constructed of wood. The puzzle pieces and board are extremely well made and are very durable. We've owned ours for over four years now and it is still in excellent condition! Each puzzle piece is about 3/16 of an inch thick. The names of the States are printed on the puzzle pieces, while the names of the capitals of each State is printed on the puzzle board. That way children not only learn the names of the states, and their location within the US, but also the capital of each State. The puzzle consists of 45 pieces--the smaller New England states, share a puzzle piece. For example, MA, RI, and CT all share one puzzle piece. The same is true of a few other north eastern states that are not within NE region. In any event, this is a wonderful puzzle. It's educational and fun, providing children with endless hours of entertainment, while increasing their knowledge about their country. My daughter, who is eight, has one of these puzzles and she loves it. I bought it back in 2011 when she was only 4. My husband and I have completed the puzzle with her many times over the years, and now that she's older she's taken it upon herself to do it with her five year old brother. It's really cute to watch them seriously concentrating while completing the puzzle. :-)

Awesome learning tool!
I purchased this item for my grandson. I wanted him to learn about our country. We have been having the best time with it. He quickly learned all 50 states, state capitals and various information of each state. I find we learn best when it is presented as a fun activity and not learning as homework. This puzzle allows me to do that. Example: He learned all the states along the east coast first because he could identify with these as we live on the coast. So we started a trip with Maine, ate a Maine lobster, then went to New Hampshire where we drove to the White Mountains and so on. Every day he came home from school and said what are we going to do with my puzzle today! I learned a few things also, it's a win-win. And Melissa and Doug quality, need I say more.

Great for all ages!
I bought this puzzle for my mother who thought Idaho was near Georgia. :) It will serve its purpose to help her learn the states' locations, and the grandkids can use it, also. It's made well. Should bring hours of fun for the whole family!

Beautiful puzzle, very sturdy.
Very nice-looking puzzle. Very sturdy construction, but does have a number of small pieces. Good item for learning national geography, but don't loose any pieces.

Sturdy, wood backed design
My 3 year old grandchild is matching each state to the easily seen lines on the puzzle. She can recognize the beginning letters of each state and then is able to discover where most of the pieces match with the shapes on the puzzle back. I am pleased with this purchase. The designs are inviting and interesting as are the colors.

The New England states are a little confusing because they are separate state pieces but not marked on the actual piece, they are labeled on the board. (So for example you have one of the smaller states like Vermont and it is just this little green piece with an arrow to the side of the map that says Vermont. ) All the larger states are labeled and include a picture of something signature from that state. Also, when a piece is lifted it reveals the capital of that state on the board beneath. Also, on the very back of the puzzle the states are listed alphabetically with each state bird, capital, population, size of the state, flower and motto. The only thing to be aware of, as some other reviewers pointed out, is that some of the smaller states don't have a designated piece or even a piece with a name on it. For example, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, etc...those types of states have the state names on the actual puzzle board but the piece is almost a filler. That being said, I have yet to see US puzzle that has designated pieces for those smaller states."}}]}]}
