Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Royal Fashion Lights Hair Color, L-44, Beige, 2.1 Ounce

This product is fantastic! I learned about it on Guy Tang's youtube channel. While you have to order two products, the color and the 40 developer, I feel it saved me money over a boxed "balyage" or highlights kit, because you can use it over and over. And the results were perfect the first time. My base color is a natural medium brown, and I ended up with beautiful caramel highlights, without toning. I had nearly given up on balyage at home, with ends that were very brassy, or even orange in color. You simply add the products (color and developer) in a 1:1 ratio. For me that was one plastic teaspoon of each in a plastic bowl, mixed until creamy. They give a maximum development time of 45 minutes. So I started timing after applying the solution to the first highlight with a dye brush. I was careful to wrap each highlight with Saran press on plastic wrap (to prevent bleeding, and keep the solution moist). The important thin to remember is that this product should not be applied to the roots due to the developer level, but seems perfect for balyage and babylights with a natural result.

This is supposed to be "extra light ash blonde" (a cool blonde) but it gave me very "yellow" hair (warm blonde) with some light orange tones after using it with their Vol 40 developer. I did a test swatch first to check for color and development time and got a perfect light ash blonde color in 20 minutes using a swath of hair the amount of which would be similar to one "chunky" highlight). So much for swatch tests! I realize now that for a larger area of hair, the development time needed to be at least 40 minutes. (I did keep an eye on the color after it was applied and got a little freaked out when I started seeing orange as that could have meant only one of two possibilities, I would end up with a deeper orange if I continued to let it process or the processing hadn't finished yet and it was at the "orange" stage, which, in hindsight I realized it was the later case, as the areas I first applied the color to were completely yellow and the last areas I applied the color to had the dreaded orange tone in it.) Fortunately I had a toner on hand, Igora Vibarnce Hair Color 9,5-1, which I used the next day with their Vol 10 developer for 20 minutes, after giving my hair 3 hours of intense conditioning with a Shea Butter hair mask with aragon oil, and arrived at a medium ash blonde color (phew). For context, this was applied to natural medium brown hair (level 7) (my hair lightens quite a bit in the sun with lots of natural blonde highlights), thin texture, and about 60% gray in the crown area. I did not use foils, just applied it with a hair color brush and combed it through my hair and did not end up with "hot roots." My hair is pretty coarse now so it needs a lot of pampering but it isn't breaking. Its great being able to buy colors from professional brands online but its really a hit and miss proposition finding the right color by looking at hair color swatches from a PDF file through your monitor from the Schwarzkopf website. I tried to find an actual picture of hair swatches from a Schwarzkopf swatch book that you can see at beauty salons or at beauty stores but could not find it anywhere online. I won't be buying this color again and won't pick out a color again until I actually see the color swatches from their book first.

Love all colors in this hair color or highlift. I have never gone wrong. Hair has never been dry. Beautiful color. Soft hair. Not damage
