Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season (Blu-ray)

Originally picked up GOTH complete Blu Ray but season 3 wouldn't play so I picked up season 3 stand alone. The Blu rays worked and space the season over 5 Blu rays which is nicer than packing entire season in 4 discs no complaints. The Blu rays I bought from Amazon worked.

Had to buy season 2 and 3 separately because the complete set of 1-8 would not play one or two entire discs

The third season of Game of Thrones is adapted from the first half of the third novel in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire set of books (which is still not complete as of 2022), A Storm of Swords. The bulk of the season sees the various "kings" such as Robb Stark and Stannis Baratheon (basically anyone with any kind of claim to the iron throne) trying to consolidate power for the eventual confrontation with the Lannisters. Another main storyline is the aftermath of the White Walker's attack and the remaining Knight's Watch members returning to warn the 7-kingdoms that something bad is coming. This season also contains "that" event, which has ramifications long down the road and influences many other storylines after it. I will not spoil it for the few who may be reading this that don't know what it is and the ripple effect it sets off, but it is one of the most impactful moments of the series.The A/V quality of the Blu-Ray is once again phenomenal and there are a ton of extras. Every episode has at least one commentary track, and a couple of episodes get two commentary tracks. Sophie Turner is again a highlight on her commentary track on Episode six (along with Maisie Williams and Issac Hempstead). Each episode can be played with an in-episode guide which fleshes out the story a lot, and then there are deleted scenes, and several making-of and behind-the-scenes featurettes. So, if you like bonus content, you have hours worth to watch and listen to, although to go through all of it, it would require watching every episode multiple times.Overall, the season is great and the series continues to be great. It is well-written and very well acted. The standouts this season include Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy who has a pretty brutal story arc this season and Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister whose role is expanded as the one really pulling the strings and is basically the king of the seven kingdoms. This season also sees the introduction of several new characters including Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei and Diana Rigg as Olenna Tyrel. The series is still very violent and has a lot of nudity and sexual content. So, it is definitely not a family-friendly show. That said, if you are into sci-fi/fantasy action dramas, particularly those set in ancient medieval times, then this is something you want to check out. That said, you absolutely must watch the first two seasons first to really have any idea what is going on in the third season because all of the story arcs intertwine and have an effect on each other.

There is no scratchs on the dvds at all! It ran pretty smoothly for a used DVD.

The third season was just as good as the first two seasons. The story was still solid (The books were great), the acting was awesome the chemistry of the actors was evident and the sets were great. A series like no other.

Game of Thrones is an exceptionally popular and critically-acclaimed show. If you're considering purchasing season 3 I have to assume you know about the show so I'm not going to go into those details. I'm primarily going to focus on the Bluray release itself.The third season of Game of Thrones is packaged almost identically to the previous bluray releases. Five bluray discs are interspersed throughout folding case that fits within a hard slipcase. A plastic slipcover goes over these to create the dragon shadow effect. A smaller slip case that fits within the hard slipcover holds the double-sided DVD versions of the show as well as the digital copy code. In terms of packaging it is frankly exquisite. The only comments I want to make with regards to this are:1. I consider having the DVDs included as kind of a bonus, but the double sided nature of the discs as well as the slip case you store them in creates a perfect storm to scratch or damage the DVDs. Handle them with care.2. The DVD release is 5 discs, the bluray release is also 5 discs. With bluray discs able to hold so much more information I'm kind of at a loss as to why so many discs are needed. I wish it were fewer discs so that they wouldn't have to be changed as frequently as the DVDs do.3. As I stated previously, the packaging is gorgeous, but it's also a little bulky. I wish it were a little slimmer so it took up a little less space but the seasons do look pretty awesome on my media rack.4. The digital copy is an amazing feature to this collection. Note: it can doesn't just have to be redeemed on iTunes, it can also be redeemed on Ultraviolet services too such as Vudu.

Not sure if it really is a blue ray copy but had no issues watching any of the disks. Have already purchased the 4th season from the same company.

I've read the books, and seen all these episodes on TV when they were rolled out. And yet, when I watched all the episodes back-to-back on this DVD, I felt like I was seeing parts for the first time. Even better, before I watched season three, I went back and revisited the previous two seasons in two marathon sessions, then dove in to these discs expecting to watch only one or two episodes a night. Two days later, and a few bleary eyed mornings later, I'd been through them all again and was thrilled.The Blu-Ray disks are superbly mastered, with nary a thing wrong. From the menus to the additional content, I loved each disk. The sound is amazing, the pictures are crystal clear; this really is why we buy Blu-Ray disks!As for the plot, well, not spoilers here except to say the acting is top notch, the visuals are amazing (the CGI blended so seamlessly), and the plot movement is kept at a decent pace with no boring moments at all. There's the violence and nudity, of course, which is not gratuitous but actually an integral part of the show. And there's the grittiness and political intrigue that mirrors real life, not just a fantasy world. In many ways, season three outperforms the first two in its scope and plot derivation, even detouring from the books a few times (for those who actually read the books!). There's more plot and character development in this series than the other two, as well, and some may see this as impeding the action somewhat, but in many ways it makes us more involved in the plot. A few loose threads from the two earlier seasons start to roll together, quite nicely, too!If you haven't seen the first two seasons, get them along with this set and have a marathon viewing session. You'll be hooked. This is probably one of the more addictive shows of late, reminding me of the way Sopranos, The Wire, and Oz hooked me. Absolutely a great buy for fans of this genre, and even for those who are not. Recommended without reservation.

Game of Thrones was a awesome series. I got the whole collection. My order came on time and worked fantastic. No problems with the blu-rays.Great gift for anybody who likes these kind of series. You escape in a whole different world. 👍👍
