Q: Is tank pre purged and tagged as such? Also is inspection date recent. They have to be tested every 12 years I believe?

I purchased a Flame King YSN201HZL Steel Propane Tank 20 lb. Horizontal from Amazon.com. The tank has two stickers that stipulate tank must be properly purged.How is this tank properly purged?

as far as I know just comparing the blue rhino tanks side by side with my 20# tanks they are the same tank. It's just that blue rhino only puts 15 pounds in a 20 pound tank.

This is the standard size. You can exchange this tank but you probably wil not get another one that has a built in gauge. Your best bet is to refill it at any propane refill station (many gas stations/uhaul locations offer this service)

Q: Does the guage measure the Weight of the tank, or the pressure? Because if it measures the pressure it is useless.

These have a "float" device inside to tell the level. You can see it working when it's part full where you can wiggle the tanks and see the needle swing up and down a bit from the "waves" of the liquid inside. So this device is NOT measuring weight or gas pressure, it's a float device. Weight measurements are an accurate way to tell the level, but gas pressure really isn't. I carefully watched a "pressure gauge" while running a heater off a BBQ tank until the tank was totally empty. The pressure gauge remained with the needle in the green (showing over 1/2 full) for 58 of the 60 hours run time. Only when down to the last 2 hours did the needle begin into the yellow area and it reached the Red area only ~15 minutes from totally empty (when the heater went off). So those give you little warning of being low on gas (and for sure can be fooling you if you think the green area means over 1/2 full on them).
