A superb game for those who like The Mandalorian and cooperative board games
I picked this up because I'm a big fan of the Mandalorian and I love cooperative board games. It's very fast to set up (just a few minutes) and takes me about 45-60 minutes to play each game. The gameplay uses cards (no dice) and is quite tactical (almost like a puzzle-solving game). The production values are excellent, and you don't need a large table to play on.My initial concern when I first opened the box was replay value, as there are only four maps. However, the game unlocks more complexity as you play, adding new cards and rules after each game -- including mercenary missions with rule overlays that let you use the maps in different ways. Combined with the 8 characters (with 3 different difficulty levels along with "advanced" versions of the characters that are unlocked later), this gives you quite a few ways to play the game.I would love to see future expansions for seasons 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian (with new maps and characters), but even the base game has quite a lot of replay value. It also has optional "traitor" rules, but I don't like that style of gameplay, so I ignored it. The game works well solo too, although you're expected to play two characters.A big part of the appeal relies on the theme, and I think this game does a wonderful job of invoking the feel of the TV show. If you don't care about The Mandalorian, it's still an excellent game -- particularly if you're a fan of cooperative board games like Andor or Horrified. On the other hand, if you dislike the TV show and/or cooperative board games, you should probably give this a miss.I'm giving this 5 stars because it ticks all the boxes for me. I love the theme and the gameplay, it's not too complex or too simple, and it feels quite different from any of my other cooperative board games. I hope they bring out more expansions in the future!
