What to Expect: Eating Well When You're Expecting

Great Nutrition Advise at any time in life
I have had terrible trouble losing the weight I gained with my first son, and I worry about my own health, and the health of a new baby, if I started a new pregnancy at the weight I am at now. We would like to start trying again in the next year or two, so we discussed the issue with my doctor and her advice was to start treating your body now like you would if you were pregnant. So I bought this book.I almost bought it's predicessor, but the description of this version's reduction in the "wheatier than thou" approach sold me. I have a couple of the other "What to do books" and was aware that I would skim past a lot of the dietary advice as not being realistic to my lifestyle - but this book is. Its full of down-to-the-roots, real life knowledge on what nutrition really is, why you are supposed to eat what they say you should, and real-world decision making for trying to be healthy one day at a time.It goes into fantastic detail on the Daily Dozen concept, and the recipies that I have tried so far are easy and tasty, with lots of room for personalization and variety. But it's not just a diet-or a recipe book. It's a way to trully think about everything you eat and why you do or don't need it. Whether I lose the weight or not, whether we have another child or not, I've gained a lot of confidence and knowledge about my habits from this book and I am very pleased with it.

Take the guess work out of your diet while pregnant
I ordered this book while anxiously awaiting my first little bundle of joy. Like many new mommies I worried about every little thing including what I should and should not eat. This book has it all. Advising what to avoid, offering recipes and even spelling out whole meal plans in detail. It is incredibly informative when it comes to your diet while pregnant. I took away a lot of the recipes and still continue to use them for the last couple of years now. This is basically a nice guide for eating healthy without starving yourself and can continue to be used even after your little one comes along. I'm now expecting #2 and I just pulled this book out again to refresh and remind myself all the wonderful things I can EAT with fuss free meal planning. I definitely recommend!

Great resource for what is good and bad for baby!
It is so hard to know what is right/wrong for your little one and this book is great at being encouraging while letting you know what you should avoid. There are so many different opinions out there on what should be avoided, what should be limited, and what you shouldn't worry about that it is nice to have it all in one place. I try to plan meals a week or two in advance and this was very helpful to me in meal prep confidence! I would recommend this to anyone who is even slightly unsure of what you need to eat or avoid eating. It helped calm my nerves and know what was best for my baby and my body

Great Book for the Difficult Pregnant Appetite
This book goes into much greater detail than the general What to Expect book on all things related to diet and food. While those sections are helpful, what I really wanted this book for was the recipes. Especially during the first trimester, when I had such a hard time eating and food aversions to almost everything, I was desperate for ideas or recipes that would make food more palatable. In that first trimester, I lived on the smoothie and muffin recipes in this book, as well as many of the simple snack and small meal suggestions. Since then, I use the recipes in this book frequently, both for meals and snacks. It has great suggestions on ways to add extra nutrition to a meal or snack (flaxseed can go in almost anything!), and nutrient-packed versions of familiar favorites. Also, this book has a better tone than Murkoff's What to Expect - not quite as quippy and cutesy. More down-to-earth and information-based.I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish there were more recipes. I haven't taken the time to read ALL the other information, but I use the recipes regularly.

Lots of good information
I love this book. It offers help with pregnancy symptoms, food aversions, alternative to food cravings, and recipes - which I really needed. There is also information about if you are gaining weight to quickly or too slowly so, it covers of us! I really loved the idea of being more nutrient aware rather than just looking at calories - it has helped me be able to find different options for nutrients especially when I'm in the mood for something else! I would recommend this book.

Lovely!
Eating well while you're expecting is a very important topic and we need to be informed about what nutrients we need while pregnant. The book explains a lot and always in a very entertaining way. The recipes are very good - even for vegetarians!

Highly Recommened
As a first-time Mom, I found this book extremely helpful. I had heard a lot of dos and do-nots from people early on, and this book answered every question I had about what is safe and what is not during pregnancy.Plus, about 1/3 of the book is recipes! I love this practical application of the nutrition info presented. The recipes are also very good--I will continue to cook some of them long after baby is born.
