amazing quality and usable AS-IS! (plug n play)
i needed a cheap webcam just for casual hang-outs in discord with friends. I looked through so many reviews (both on amazon and youtube) to get a gist of what to expect from the device. After looking through so many reviews, i was under the impression that one NEEDED to adjust the settings with the anker software to get decent use out of it. But that is not the case!Although the software IS useful for taking control of certain settings, I only ended up adjusting 2 settings. I lessened the viewing angle to 78 degrees, and i raised the saturation by 2 points. That is IT. Very minor adjustments. The camera works really well right out of the box!Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend everyone get the software. It took just a few seconds to install, and there's a lot of video, image, and sound settings to adjust to give the user full control of how they want the video to look. (There are resolution settings, anti-flicker settings, brightness, sharpness, contrast, focus settings, etc.)btw, my desk has a shelf above the monitor area, so i don't actually have any space to attach a webcam on top of the monitor. I ended up placing the webcam on top of the shelf, angled downwards a bit, and that worked just fine!I'm happy with it!

Great webcam for video conferencing
This is an excellent webcam for video conference meetings. The skin color is decent. The 2K maximum resolution is far more than sufficient for my needs. Typically, since all my coworkers use 360p, my 720p resolution stands out well. To balance resolution and bandwidth, I typically use 720p resolution for WebEx and Microsoft Teams meetings. There's seldom any need to use the 2K maximum resolution on a typical video group conference meeting, unless one is doing a one-on-one interview. I also use a dedicated $25 USB microphone instead of the built-in mic on the webcam because the $25 dedicated USB microphone sounds far richer and more realistic than the built-in mic on the Anker webcam.

Actually a great camera, and with a dedicated customer service team
I was initially extremely frustrated when I got this camera and saw that it had a USB-A cable. This was the top pick from Amazon for "USB-C 2k webcam" and I recently went through a spate of getting things that were Amazons top pick for a search query that didn't apply to them. In my frustration, I wrote a three-star review because I only look at critical reviews and I wanted to warn people that the cable wasn't USB-C. But the cable is not built in, and the port on the camera side is USB-C. More importantly since it's not built-in, you can use any cable you want, as long as it is USB-2.0 and USB-C on the camera end. When I realize this I decided I would just suck it up and try the camera because I wasn't seeing options on Amazon that looked better. I had half-an hour of frustration because I was using an old USB-C to USB-C cable directly. I had to use the provided cable with an adapter, which was what I wanted to avoid. However I know for a fact that the brand of USB-C to USB-C cable I use isn't great; I use it because they're the only one that makes those in the color I want, I just keep replacing them when they go bad, what happens about every two years. I ordered a fresh USB-C to USB-C cable but in the meantime I found that it works great with the provider cable and a USB-A to USB-C adapter.I am impressed with the software that comes with it, which works great if you aren't using a defective cable. I would've preferred to be able to adjust the settings on the camera itself but it seems like every manufacturer is doing stuff through software now and the software works great with Mac. The one possible obstacle I realized is my next computer is definitely going to be System 76 with native Linux, and I'm not sure if it'll be compatible. But it does not claim to work with Linux, and I will cross that bridge when I come to it.Meanwhile Amazon had not even approved my review and I kind of forgot about it until it went live and the manufacturer immediately offered me a full refund, without asking me to take down the review. I asked them NOT to refund me, because this is me unfairly venting frustration at them over something Amazon does, which turned out not even to be relevant since the cable is not built in! And if I had been thinking, I could have inferred that from the fact that it came with a USB-A cable!

Great camera and mic quality, but I'm worried about the camera blocker slider
The camera image quality and microphone is great and better than what my laptop has. The auto focusing was accurate, quick, and could focus on everything that I tested. I was especially happy that I could display things up close to the camera and that the camera would focus on it clearly.Set up was very easy, I just had to plug it into my laptop. I saw that there is a special software that I can use to customize the camera more, but out the box things seemed perfect for my usage. I will still take a look at what the software offers since it seems like firmware updates come from there. You can easily cover the camera by sliding a bar on the top of the camera to the left, which is always a nice feature to have. However, one thing I am concerned about is that the slider cover for the camera seems to electrically disable the camera rather than simply block the lens. My laptop has a similar switch that disables the connection to the camera, but the switch became loose which led to the camera rapidly and randomly connecting and disconnecting multiple times. That issue with my laptop led me to buy this camera, and I hope that a similar issue does not happen in the future with this camera through the slider breaking.I was a little worried about the grip of the camera hanging from my laptop, but after putting it on and shaking my laptop screen a bit, I found that it was pretty stable and didn't move. One last thing, the packaging is very nice! It was fun to unbox.
