A great 2-in-1 toolset with a fatal flaw.
While the price might seem excessive for a network tester, you're getting a network tester and a toner probe, saving you a lot of space and organisation. It's been nothing but useful since I had it for decoding 20 years old cable runs, you might find a problem when it comes to using it.The toner probe is dead. It worked when you got it, but after shoving it in your bag for a month, when you go to use it, it doesn't pick up anything, assuming the light stays on that long. The dial on the side is too proud and is very easily flicked into an on position. Remove the batteries before storing it!

Top quality bit of kit.

Distorted fuzzy noise for cable tracing - unreliable
Sound emitted when tracing cables is terrible and leaves you completely unsure as to which cable is which. If I have a duff item, fair enough but if not, this is terrible at best. For the money I expect considerably more.Returning this item

Ethernet cable and beyond!
The media could not be loaded. What a great tool to have in the toolbox. This is not only for ethernet cables. You can use it on any cable as long as it is not energised. You just turn off the circuit breaker for that circuit, and you can use it.It has some many uses for it. Let me start with finding the right cable in a giant mess of ethernet cables. You have 2 ways of doing that.1- Put in the cable test function, connect the probe on one terminal and the other device on the other terminal and keep changing the terminals until you find one that the lights start blinking.2- Put in the Tone function. Connect the base in one terminal and use the probe to find the correct cable. It will sound much louder once it touches the right cable.Another useful feature is to test an ethernet cable. It even says it the cable is shielded or not (the S in the device), especially useful to check that cheap cable that says they are cat7 or cat8. As the lights blink on both the base and the probe, you can check if the cable order is correct and if any defect within the cable. There is also a continuity mode that you can use in no energised circuits to check for a short-circuit or if the ground is working properly in a device, for instance. Now my favourite is to find cables behind a wall. In the tone mode, you can use the problem to find cables that are behind a wall. I tested using my desk, that is thicker than most walls, and I could find, roughly, the area where the cable is. It is not super precise, but it does the job!

Not sure if mine was faulty
Mine arrived today but i am forced to return it, i am not new to tone and probe kits being an IT tutor, so i kind of know what to expect from a probe, namely silence until the probe starts to detect the toner, this thing however from the second it was turned on sounded like the speaker was constantly vibrating, only it was nowhere near the toner, upon getting closer to the toner its pitch changed a little .all other functions work as advertised. The build quality felt ok of the price, just let down by either the quality control or the design if this is the desired intended sound.
