Sherryl Woods writes pleasant romances with the typical relationship angst that is resolved by the end of the story. Her characters are interesting and likable. This item contained 2 books that were part of a 5 book series. The core of the 5 stories is the friendships of 5 very different women from a small town. Each character has taken a different path and has her own issues that need to be resolved. They come together at their 10 year high school reunion. They each become involved in a romance, although for one character that romance is down the road as at the time of the reunion her husband suddenly dies. The unique thing about this series is that rather than writing it in chronological order, each story begins just before the reunion and the stories overlap each other for a period of several months. So you can read the series in any order. For me the most interesting character was Emma, a driven lawyer and divorced mom who was involved with an emotionally abusive husband. She ends up defending a woman from her home town who, after years of emotional and physical abuse, kills her husband (that character gets her own story in a later book). Both Emma and her romantic interest learn a lot about themselves and the psychology of abuse as they go through the preparation for this trial. Sherryl Woods generally writes a lot of sensual attraction without a lot of explicit sex. That's the case with this series as well. Overall it's an enjoyable series, particularly if you like to see overlapping story lines and ongoing character development.

I always love Sherryl Woods books. This was not different. Five women who are totally different form a great friendship and always have each others back.

The Calamity Janes is a three book set. Get them all so you can read them back to back. Wonderful stories, inspirational without knocking you over the head with it. Five great woman and their strruggles and triumphss. Quick read, Loved them all!

Really enjoyed this series. Looking forward to the sequels and continuation of this journey. The characters are multi faceted and bring you into their experiences.
